GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE TIPS
When your Customers Have Disabilities
Offer your assistance. DON’T WAIT TO BE ASKED!
Ask, “How Can I assist you?”
Don’t assume you know how to help an individual. No 2 people, even with the same disability, need the same type of help.
Don’t touch a person without asking their permission. For example, “Would you like to hold my arm?” NEVER grab a person’s arm.
Talk in your normal voice. Don’t talk too loud. Don’t talk to us as if we are little children.
The best way to increase your comfort around people with disabilities, is to spend more time with us.
Some of us are polite and some are rude, just like everyone else. Don’t be upset if your offer of assistance is rudely refused. Try again with another person, someone who is smiling.
Of course these tips are just good manners and they apply to people who are friends and neighbors as well, not just to customers.
