Building One Community
Working to create an attitude throughout the school, from administration through students, of full acceptance and full participation by all in the daily life of the school.

A letter from a parent of a child involved in this project:
I wanted to take a minute of your time and let you know how impressed I am with your Special Ed staff and the Partners Club they have implemented. My daughter, Ashlyn Stewart is involved in the new club thanks to Mrs. Oliver and Mrs. Rothschild, and she loves it!!
...It is so great to see not only a caring staff from your Special Education Department but I’m also so impressed with the students escorted a group of typical teenagers that would take the time to do something so positive and kind for a group of kids who rarely get to enjoy these kinds of activities with anyone but their families. That simple gesture of kindness speaks volumes about the kind of students who attend Flowery Branch High.
The Goals of Building One Community
¨ Form a leadership team at each school consisting of administrators, regular and special ed teachers, students with and without disabilities, parents, and community representatives. This team promotes inclusion throughout school life.
¨ Develop Partners Clubs made up of students with and without disabilities, which function like all other school clubs. They also promote inclusion, mutual support, recreational and service activities.
¨ We provide Instructors and Support for a class helps the students look at their strengths, set short and long term goals, and improve their self advocacy skills.
¨ We conduct Person Centered Planning meetings that help students work toward life goals. These meetings involve the significant people in the student’s life who brainstorm ideas and resources for helping the student achieve his or her dreams.
